Ordinarily speaking , imitation and originality are considered to be at two different poles.Generally , we despise and condemn imitation ; and approve and commend originality.But we forget that there is no such thing in this world as absolute originality.It is GOD alone who is absolutely original.Truly speaking , imitation leads to originality.All of us learn much by imitation which becomes the basis of our future originality.We may use the thoughts of others ; and yet be original by presenting them in new combinations , by applying them to the new spheres of life , by transforming or abriding and by simplifying. The same sentence spoken on two different ocassions by the same person need not convey the same sense.It is because the thoughts that go with that sentence on different occasions are different.So we see that a man may be original even when he uses the very words of another.Hence we should not depreciate imitation because it is the crude form of originality.
