HOLIDAYS

There is not much need of proving to school students that holidays are necessary. Infact they are most desirable too. They welcome a holiday from school with hilarious joy. It would be more apt to try and tell them the necessity of work and study.Yet it may be desirable to show that regular intervals of rest and recreation are all necessary. As an old rhyme says,

” All work and no play,

Makes Jack a dull boy.”

Holidays at regular intervals are especially necessary for young people, those engaged in hard mental work. Continuous work without a break will cause ill-health. A short holiday, effectively used will refresh us and help us get back to our work with renewed energy and zest.

“Effectively used”. Its all that matters. If holidays are spent in stupid idleness, or in other unhealthy and unfruitful ways, students will come back to their work all the more unwilling and tired. In such a case instead of doing any good the holidays have done a harm which is much more than what continuous work would do.

How can the holidays then be used so that at the end of it we shall come back to work with renewed energy and keen interest?Since we’ve been working shut up in our rooms during working days, all we need is a breath of fresh and pure air, healthy surroundings, games, sports, visit to a different place an other rejuvinating things. We should avoid unhealthy habits, get enough sleep and find time for our own self. However we should not be idle to have a complete rest. What we need is a change of occupation. This is what rest is. Work on what you find interesting. This would not only make holidays rejuvinating but also enjoyable!
