Kidneys are bean in shaped structures and anout 10 cn long . The are dark red in colour and present in a singular pair in the abdomen of human beings , just above the waist , on either side of the backbone . These are the major execxtory organs in human beings .

Each kidney consists of a large number coiled tubes ( about a million ) called nephrons . These are the functional units of a kidney .
